Ferrari S.p.A was founded 1928 by a gentleman named Enzo Ferrari in Italy. At the time it was called Scuderia Ferrari, and when it first started it made race cars and sponsored drivers. It didn't start making street legal cars until 1947 when it took the name Ferrari S.p.A. It is said that Enzo never wanted to make cars that were drivable on the street when he started his company. The only reason he started to build cars for the road was because he needed to fund his racecar factory right after World War II.
The race cars that Ferrari built couldn't be touch the over all drivers of Ferrari cars in racing have gotten 15 world driver championship titles, 16 world constructors championships, 209 Grand Prix victories, 203 pole positions in those Grand Prix, and 218 fastest laps in 776 Grand prix events. That is quiet impressive winning over 3/5 of the overall Grand Prix races.
The first Ferrari that was ever sold that was street legal was the 1947 125s, and it had a 1.5L V12 engine in it. After that it was all over, he built cars he made normal road cars up until 1973 with a car called the Berlinetta Boxer, it was a mid engine V12. The cars that Ferrari are most famous for are considered the Super Cars. The first Super Car was built in 1962, it was the 250 GTO, and since them many more have been built. These include the Ferrari Enzo, the Ferrari P4 and the P5, but the most recent car that has been built is the 2005 Ferrari Ascari.
